The International Indigenous Speakers Bureau (IISB) has engaged in a transformative collaboration with Riipen, driven to address and dismantle the power dynamics, privilege, and structural inequalities that pervade our societies. Over the past five years, this collaboration has been an evolving journey of mutual learning and respect, focused on integrating Indigenous worldviews with Western educational frameworks. Our collaboration represents a crucial step towards creating a more inclusive and equitable space where Indigenous perspectives are acknowledged and central to our shared endeavors.

IISB’s perspective

This collaboration is vital for ensuring Indigenous voices and experiences are authentically represented and valued in educational and professional development contexts. IISB is committed to fostering a relationship with Riipen that is rooted in respect, reciprocity,  and true collaboration, as well as focusing on removing systemic barriers stemming from past or present colonial attitudes. Riipen’s willingness to engage with our perspectives and adapt their processes to meet us halfway is essential for building a relationship that does not perpetuate the imposition of external standards but promotes genuine co-creation and mutual respect.

Navigating different worldviews and addressing the historical injustices that continue to affect our communities presents inherent challenges. However, this collaboration with Riipen represents a profound opportunity for systemic change. Together, we aim to dismantle the barriers that hinder equal participation and recognition of Indigenous knowledge. We aim to create an environment where all learners can gain culturally informed skills and thrive. Through this collaboration, we strive to contribute to a future where education serves as a tool for empowerment and equity, ensuring that the contributions of Indigenous communities are celebrated and integrated into the broader societal fabric.
