Lethbridge College x Dorkaholics - Content Creation for Online Publication
The Company
Dorkaholics based in Los Angeles, California is a growing online publication, producing content around topics at the intersection of pop culture and ethnic identity, for audiences who have been underrepresented in the mainstream media.
The Institution
Kris Hodgson-Bright is a faculty member in the Digital Communications and Media program at Lethbridge College in Alberta, Canada. This project was worked on by his second-year digital journalism learners
The Challenge
As a growing online publication, Dorkaholics wanted the help of learners to move their business forward and help them continue to grow. The digital journalism learners from Lethbridge College were tasked with understanding the publication's audience base and creating a well-researched piece of media for use and/or distribution that was relevant and interesting. Learners could explore different content formats and content channels for distribution.
The Outcome
Learners took a deep dive into topics that appealed to Dorkaholic's defined audience. They crafted well-researched articles that were then published on the industry partner's online publication and shared across all social media channels. Two sample articles that were published through this project include: "Star Trek: Voyager, Impacting Lives Since 1995" and "Celebrating ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ in 2020".
“Neil [Founder of Dorkaholics] has been great. He's just been nothing but enthusiastic about the work that's coming in and it's been really great to see how supportive he has been of the learners' work.” Kris Hodgson-Bright, Faculty, Lethbridge College
