The Teacher App is a digital hub for mental health resources for educators in Canada. Its mission is to ensure every educator in Canada feels seen, heard, and understood.
The CEO and Founder of The Teacher App, Amanda Tanner, partnered with Brandon Marks through the Level UP remote internship program to update The Teacher App website.
A computer science student at the University of Western Ontario, Brandon made enhancements to the Teacher App website and implemented new functionalities.
With this Level UP project, Brandon applied what he had learned in school and implemented his web development skills.
“I’ve gained a lot of great experience. I worked on many new challenges and learned new skills along the way. Some of my tasks included fixing bugs in the website with various web and software development technologies and implementing new functionalities. These functionalities will improve the user experience and allow the teachers to share content and communicate effectively,” Brandon shared.
Brandon and other Level UP students have significantly impacted The Teacher App platform.
“It's just a beautiful synchronicity. Everyone's giving back in this way, and it's been awesome and encouraging. And, honestly, we couldn't be here without the Level UP program,” Amanda shared.
Brandon enjoyed implementing the software development tools he’d learned in school in a hands-on way.
“This internship gave me a lot of valuable experience because I learned more about the technologies used in software development. I improved my skills by using these technologies, preparing me to look for jobs. I gained a lot from this internship,” Brandon shared.
Amanda was impressed with the Level UP learners’ professionalism as student interns.
“It felt like you were working with employees with Level UP. They were at meetings often. They were collaborative. It was close and tight-knit,” she shared.
Amanda was a Level UP student when she attended university, and she continues to champion the program as she has seen it impact her business.
“The platform is genius. Just the way it's created and how easy it is to connect with different people. I knew as a student that I benefited from Level UP experiences that helped me learn more about what I was excited about. So, I wanted to give that experience to students, too. They're motivated, they're looking to grow, they want to grow with us. I didn't want just to hire a consultant. I wanted people to grow with us, especially students. It's magic,” she shared.
Brandon hopes other students can also experience some of the Level UP magic.
“I would recommend this way of learning to other students because it gives them the opportunity to learn valuable skills and prepare for their careers,” he shared.
