eWorx Technology is a start-up that builds integration and automation software to solve business problems.
Through the Level UP remote internship program, senior software engineer Yassar Ali partnered with Nadia Al-Amoudi to work on marketing and graphic design for eWorx apps.
A student at Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, Nadia, edited and pitched new ideas for eWork’s marketing and design of digital apps.
This experience inspired Naida to reevaluate her course of studies and future career options. She’s been studying interior design, but after this experience, she discovered how much she loved technology. “This has impacted my career aspirations as I went to school for interior design but fell in love with the tech world, and I’m now pursuing UI/UX design.”
However, her interior design background worked to her advantage on this project. It was easy for her to transfer design concepts from interior spaces to the digital. “Her interior design background allowed her to see how to visualize a layout and decide on a good combination of colors and user flow,” Yassar shared.
More than that, what was most important to Yassar was how Nadia aligned with eWorx’s culture and values. “Nadia was one of the best people to work with us because she matched our core culture and values in addition to having a background in design.”
By communicating through Slack and having one-on-one weekly meetings, the project went smoothly for Nadia. “Communication was key in developing well-polished marketing and design work. This meant meeting each other weekly to keep him updated on what was being worked on. Yassar was helpful and open to suggestions and guidance.”
Yassar was happy to help Nadia learn and grow through this project. Helping young programmers and computer developers learn new skills is one of Yassar’s favorite parts of working with Level UP students. “When I see them successful, and they understand what they are doing and the actual world, that’s something special.”
Yassar says that the key to a successful project is having realistic expectations. “These are still students with little to no experience. It’s important for employers to keep this in mind and take the time to train students.”
Overall, Yassar was very happy with the graphic design work Nadia completed. He would be delighted to work with her again if the opportunity presents itself.
The impact this experience had on Nadia was very positive, and she would like to see other students have more opportunities like this. “I would definitely recommend Riipen as I have connected with people in the tech industry, and it opened my eyes to how the industry works.”
