Dominarlo creates flexible, efficient, affordable digital educational tools for post-secondary educators and students.
Through the Level UP remote internship program, the founder of Dominarlo, Dr. Sherif Elbarrad, partnered with learner Amjad Khabbas to create updated data sets.
A student at York University, Amjad used his learned computer science skills to remake and record previously created data sets for Dominarlo.
As a computer science major, Amjad has been exposed to several data tools, but his understanding didn’t change until he started his internship at Dominarlo.
“I could finally connect what I was learning in school to the project I was working on. It has helped me sharpen my skills on desirable tools in the marketplace,” Amjad emphasized.
In fact, Amjad is currently wrapping up the second portion of his project with Dominarlo.
“The students got a lot of great experience, and many have returned. [Level UP] was a life-changing experience for them, and it’s helping them find jobs,” Dr. Elbarrad commented.
That is the case for Amjad.
“I feel more prepared in terms of opportunities and employment. I have some interviews, and I’m positive that this experience with Dominarlo helped me get those,” Amjad enthusiastically shared.
Dr. Elbarrad and his company felt the positive benefits of having students from the Level UP program help out: “The Level UP projects allowed me to add more features to our products. We expanded the initiatives’ levels of depth and breadth and added features, and the Level UP students made the products more feasible for commercialization.”
While creating digital education tools takes time, Amjad always felt noticed as an intern.
“These were some of the nicest people I’ve met. They were always generous with resources; we could call them if we ever needed help. Plus, they understood that school came first,” Amjad shared.
This understanding may have something to do with Dr. Elbarrad’s mission in life.
“I love the Level UP program because it helped my company, but at the same time, it’s changing student’s lives by giving them this opportunity. Changing student’s lives is my mission in life,” Dr. Elbarrad shared.
Dr. Elbarrad would like to see the Level UP program continue and shared, “This is an excellent initiative, and hopefully it continues because it’s great for businesses and, more importantly, it’s great for students.”
Amjad also can’t recommend it highly enough: “I absolutely recommend this program. In fact, I’ve already recommended it to a few friends, and they’ve already got projects through Level UP.”
